Best answer phone message ever

Filled under jokes videos youtube

This is the message that the Maroochydore High School, Queensland, Australia, staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school.

This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children’s absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children’s failing grades changed to passing grades – even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes. Thou Shalt always Kill

Filled under music youtube

What may appear as a bit of a weird title to this post, let me explain. It is the name of a both the song and video by a group called, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. The song in question is something that one of my facebook friends posted, that I thought was so amazing, I  listen to it on repeat six times. I think that this video speaks directly to the youtube generation, telling us not to be lazy and greedy. If anything, it is just very funny. Give it a listen.

New Simpson opening

Filled under TV youtube

You have seen this doing the rounds on the internet but I thought I would post it for those who hadn’t seen it. It seems that the people at Fox thought it was time to update the opening to The Simpsons. It is the first time it was been updated in nearly twenty years. For the most part, I like it, it includes a lot of the characters that have been introduced or have become more important. I like that Maggy has her little fist shake to the other baby. I also like seeing side-show bob trying to kill Bart as he goes passed.

It is an interesting move to put the Simpsons in High-definition, as cartoons is not really the best media to transfer to this format. Becuase of the nature of cartoons, with big blocks of colour, they do are not effected by low video quality.

What do you think of it?

Welcome President Barack Obama

Filled under political statement youtube

I thought I would take the time to say, well done to Barack Obama for gaining office. This day is one that I will tell my children of,  when the world became a more talent place. Where belief that every man, woman and child was born equal, was today proved to the world. For me personally, I could not be more overjoyed by this day. That America, a country that is seen as the world’s example, that has for so long lived under the shadow of ignorance, intolerance and Xenophobia has now walked out into the light. That in these troubled times, a man of conviction ,intelligence and grace is put in charge of a country that can make a difference through-out the world it means that today is a great day. Barack’s election today sends a message to the world, that tolernace does exist, that people’s of different races can work together for a better future. No one knows what the future may bring but can we live together peacefully and build a better future, in the word’s of Barack Obama himself, “Yes we can“.

I’m blu

Cool
There are few times in my life that I see something and my breath is taken away. I am massive fan of art but like many of us, I don’t have the time to go to galleries enough. Luckier enough, while watching diggnation, I saw a video that simply was amazed. The video is truly impressive, as it is seven minutes long animation. The animation was made by painting an image on a wall, taking a picture, repainting the wall and taking another picture. Consudering that for each second of film there could be as many as 26 frames, that is a lot of pictures. Even if they painted only 13 images a second, that could be as many as 5460 painting.

The video was by a morden artist called blu. Blu it turns out is a big deal in the art world and is famous for coming his images on public spaces on walls. Looking at his blog, I found he also did a massive painting on the side of the tate modern. I really enjoyed this painting, I look forward to seeing more from this artist.

Piclens

Filled under computers images youtube

As the internet changes from mainly text based content to rich media such larger images and flash videos, it is getting harder to view it all this within your browser. In comes Piclens, a browser pluggin for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. This simple piece of software changes the way we ingest media from the internet. PicLens instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen, 3D experience for viewing images and video on the web. It collects all the images or videos on a supported web site and allows you to scroll through them in a wonderful 3D slideshow.

It doesn’t work on every site, which is a bummer, the site has to go out of it’s way to support it but some sites but the most important sites like Facebook, Flickr and Google images. It works extremely with Flickr and Facebook, it is not only does it do a slideshow of all the images on the current page, but all the images in the current album. When looking for an image for a night out, now all I need to do is scroll through the whole album using my mouse. The best bit it that it works with Youtube as well, so you are easierly browser through videos. Best of all on Youtube, becuase it is not reloading adverts and comments on the page, when you view a new video it is so much faster to stream the video.

Nerd Porn

Filled under random videos youtube

When doing some youtubing the other day I found an extremely funny video called Nerd Porn. Well I decided to look up the voice on the video and found it is from a geeky comedian called Ernest Cline. When looking around his site, I stabled on a video called Dance monkey dance. I don’t know exactly what to say about this video apart from I think it sums up the world in one simple video. We are all monkeys and really should take things so seriosuly.

This is the forth part of series of posts about life at university and my thought on my first year. The first post in the series just had some general thoughts I had coming straight back from Portsmouth. This post is entitled “The internet“.

When I think of my life at the University of Portsmouth can not seem to imagine what it would be like without the internet. It is such a big part of how I interact with the world and the people around me. It is how I relax by watching funny videos, how I research work problems and where I talk to my friends at the end of the day.

So here is my top ten useful sites
