I found this blog called this is why you’re fat. Basically it is a collection of gut-busting food from around the world. The feature picture is of Bacon Cheese Pizza Burger, which is described as “Giant burger between two large meat pizzas, eggs, bacon, colby and pepper jack cheese”.
I think this blog says something about the world, but mostly it about America, because I think most of these are from there. The only thing I don’t understand is why they try and mix sweet and savory. The worse one for this is the Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies, which, for the life of me I don’t understand. But is it wrong that this site made me a little bit hungry?
Jonathan Coulton is singer, songwriter, new father, and ex software designer, but what makes him interesting compared lots of other artists out there is that he released all of his music for free. His story is an amazing one, in 2005 he left his rubbish day job writing software for a small database company to pursue music full time. He worked out that it was really hard to get signed onto a record label so he decided to try something different. He created a website called Thing a Week and released (for free) a new song every week for a year, which is no mean feat.
He created a A few of those songs became big internet hits, including folky cover of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back“, a funny video called “Flickr“. My personal favorite song called “Code Monkey“, with the classic line
“Code Monkey think maybe manager oughta write goddamn login page himself !”
This was made all the funnier for me while listening to this song as writing a login page at the time, give it a listen. It is nice to have a nerd writing songs about stuff I can really relate with and even sometimes make me laugh. One song that touched me personally, was a Future Soon, which tells of his problems as a teenage nerd.
The most interesting thing about him is the he makes his money purely from donations and live
performances and manages to make a living out of it. So if you like his music, go donate. If you want to listen to his free music, his podcast can still be downloaded for free. Give it a go!
When doing some youtubing the other day I found an extremely funny video called Nerd Porn. Well I decided to look up the voice on the video and found it is from a geeky comedian called Ernest Cline. When looking around his site, I stabled on a video called Dance monkey dance. I don’t know exactly what to say about this video apart from I think it sums up the world in one simple video. We are all monkeys and really should take things so seriosuly.
I have been very unlucky lately and have lost three phones in a row. Thinking back over the whole thing, I worked out how important to have a form of communition with the world. Unlike like a couple of years ago, with so many people in my life and living between two different area codes, I found it is very important to have a way to contact me where ever the hell I am.
The thing that interested me the most is the very small amount of numbers that I both recieve and send texts to. I had tonnes of numbers on my phone, friends of old and random people I didn’t really know. From all this, I worked out that I only really needed four numbers.
- Mother(of course)
- Girlfriend
- Best friend on Course
- Sholder to cry on
But being without a phone most useful tool that I have used instead of having a phone is the social networking web site Facebook. With Facebook I have the ablity to have a portal to my community of friends and family where I am. To me at least, it has nearly replaced my phone as the way I interact with my friends. Now I have a new phone, I really need Facebook everywhere I go. A while back I installed the Mobile app. It sends me SMS messages when I get a wall post or message meaning I have both the phone to make calls, texts and now facebook in one device.
With new devices like the Iphone coming out, it is funny to think that I am never happier than with a really old crap phone in my pocket. It means that when I lose this one I don’t really care because it costs me nothing. It also shows how much I really care about new features in phones. I couldn’t give a crap if there is a the best camera in the world in my phone now, as long as I can make calls I am happy. So stick that in your pile and smoke it O2!

This post is in honnor of International Talk Like A Pirate Day which is t’celebrated every year on the 19th of September. So I would like to say Arrgghh to all Mateys and Ahoy to my Beauty.

I woke up today to discover a fly in my room. A simple plain little thing that I would normally play no notice to but for some reason it made me think. This poor fly was repeatly flying into the window pane trying to espace. I could not help but feel like that fly sometimes. That poor fly repeating beating it’s head trying hard to espace when it is impossible to get out. Feeling trapped in the path in life and not achiving my goal was something that happened to me in the first year of uni. However, what I admired about the fly was that it never gave up, it continued to hit it’s head and would repeat itself until it died. To it, not to keep trying is to die. I opened the window and freed the poor fly. I think that kind of drive is something that I should have, to be strong and not to give, even if it means I have to hit my head a couple of times.

This is a picture of everything that I carry around in pockets and on my person on an noraml day. It is really shocking how much stuff I need to get by from day to day. In this picture there is from left to right:
- Wallet (with Money and credit card)
- British passport Nokia
- N73 mobile phone
- National rail card
- Key (with small pen knife and bottle openner)
- Creative Zen Vision:M
- Watch
I am shocked that it all fits in my pockets and my person. Everything that I have with me has it’s use. It will be interested to do this again in 5, 10 and 15 years time see how much I carry changes. I think that in the future I will only carry a phone with built-in mp3 instead of having two devices. Will I have car keys or sweets for my children. This picture remids me of what my life is really from day to day. This picture was taken for the The Items We Carry Flickr group pool.
