100th post(again)

29 June 2008. Tagged personal, updates

sel.png This is a big post for me and I have been thinking about what I was going to write on it. Firstly the title, this blog has already had 100 posts on it but after the revamp, I got rid of many posts. So to my count this is my 100th post in this new version. So firstly, Spacedmonkey is now is version 3.7. There are lots of style change, most importantly is the new wide style. This feature came about when using my Macbook to edit the site and thought that with it’s wide screen, the page looked like it wasted a lot of space. The new wide style fits the site to the width of your screen and makes it a lot easier to read. To use this feature, section the wide style in the right hand bar.

You may also notice that there is a new logo, pictured above that I have been playing around with. I like it alot but when have the time and the graphic design skill I will redesign it and place it somewhere within the site.

New projects

26 May 2008. Tagged personal

I have really been keeping a low profile on spacedmonkey in the last couple of months, worse the normal but I am a extremely busy man. Having said that, I have tweaked quite a few things on my web sites over the last couple of months. For one, I finally added some stuff on the Tools part of Computing Corner. There are a few pages I had for friends and pieces of work I have done that I have kept me away from coding my own sites lately. This is all going to change over the summer. I have lots of projects in the pipelines and I thought that my faithful readers might be interested.

  1. First, I am currently in talks with to become the a consultant at a small promotional company being setup on by a couple of friends of mine. It should be a really interesting opportunity to show of some of my web design skills. Nothing is confirmed yet but I am hopeful. Watch this space for my news on this.
  2. Spacedmonkey is going to get a couple of new sections. Instead of all blogs and post simply going to the home page, things will be divided up into sections. It has already been redesigned, with lots of little improvements.
  3. ComputingCorner will also change dirrection. It started off a tech blog but I didn’t really add to it, as I think that their are enough blogs out there saying the same things. The blog is going to change into a simple updates to the site blog and the site will focus more on mods and scripts. All the scripts and little bits of code that I have written will be uploaded to ComputingCorner for the great world to use, free of charge.
  4. A new micro reviews page 160 character reviews of tv, films, gigs and music.

There are many new things going to be happening, I have to get through my exams and moving back to London for starters. Watch this space for updates.

My horoscope

23 April 2008. Tagged personal, quote

I have never been one for believing the horoscopes, most of them are pretty generic and could mean anything to anybody. For once in my life, I think there might be something to do them. I was on a yahoo web sites on saw this.

z11.gif You probably aren’t going to feel very social today, dear Pisces. In fact, you’re likely to want to work on projects and tasks alone if you can. This actually might be good for you, as you probably need to concentrate on crossing certain things off your list without being distracted.Still, you should get out among others at some point during the day.You might want to be alone, but you’ll still need to feel that you belong.

This could not better sum up how I am feeling today. It is really freaked me out. Not sure I am a believer, but sure am weirded out.

Keeping myself busy

22 February 2008. Tagged computers, design, personal, rant, series, uni, works

Every time I write a blog on here, I always feel guilty for not having the time to write more on this blog. In truth I have too much going on in my life at the moment to keep a truly up to date blog. I also find that lots of the things I want to blog about feel a bit pointless. There are so many blogs out there, so what is the point of rewriting stuff that someone has already written like so many others. As I am keeping myself so busy, what have I been doing?

Well of course, I have had university work to do; I am working on my second year of my degree at the moment so I have had lots to do there. I created a couple of pieces of work that I was extremely proud of. For one of modules, I had to write a Java program which was a massive undertaking. The Java program was a simple piece of network mapping software. It worked out amazing; I can’t say I have been more proud of anything, work wise, than this. Check out a screenshot of it in action on my Flickr account.

My Macbook

macbook

Normally I don’t write posts on my web site personal site about computers, I have another blog called ComputingCorner for that but this time, I don’t feel like I can help myself. For Christmas I was lucky enough to get myself a brand new Macbook and I most admit that I love this thing. As a person that does computing and a little web designing this thing is prefect. It really has changed my life at University to have a working laptop in my lectures. The only thing that I have not enjoyed about this wonderful computer is the number of people that talk to me about it. I can’t seem to get it out of my bag without someone wanting to explain why their laptop is better. I am really am sick of it. The number of people that talk rubbish about Apple’s computers, is amazing. Some of these people have shocked me with what they think you can’t do or just sillyness. For example, you guy told me that you can not print on a Mac. I am sorry but WHAT! I have installed three printers on my macbook and have not had a single problem with any of them. In fact it was easier than installing a print on Windows. I have also heard that Macs are really slow, which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard as my macbook boots and runs faster than most high end Windows laptops.
