Rebrand myself
Dress smarter
Look neater
- Give my websites and twitter a new look and feel.
I would count this as a success, I do dress smarter and look tidier. I have not rebranded my sites, more to come on this one.
Devote more time to being a geek
Watching more films
Reading more comics
Playing games
Massive sucess, however, I ended up buying more games, book and dvds than I could watch with my little spare time.
- Treat myself better
I slept more but managed to put nearly a stone on in weight. Working on it this year.
- Be more polite
Work in progress
To visit old friends from uni
- Become a better designer
Invest time into reading about design
Take more risks with my own sites.
Even through you haven’t seen it yet, I have done a lot designing this year, redesigning spacedmonkey and my portofilio, I have yet to do anything with these designs yet, but soon.
Plan an international trip, preferable to san francisco or a road trip across europe.
Done, had a great time and came back with better friends.
- Develope Jonathandavidharris into a web development website, with scripts, portfolio, blog and snippets. Be the next css-tricks
For a number reason, mostly time, this didn’t happen. The design was started and it grew until the point where it kind fell over. As I do not want to make anything of poor quality.
- Document this year
- Taking lots of photos
- Write a journal
I didn’t do this for a number of reasons, mostly time again, but another one is not haivng a good enough camera on my phone. I think this a the year of my life that I took the smallest amount of photos. It is something I am sad about and will fix with a better camera and going more interesting places.
Have more fun and laugh
It is that time of the year again where I publicly pledge my plans and hopes for 2012.Unlike many years, I am not putting things on there that are my life goals, such as be tidier, learn to drive and so on. These are on going and are on my to do list for all of my life.
- Be a better communicator
This is one that oh EVERYONE in my life has asked for and I have listened and I am replying, finally.
- Use new forms of communication to stay in touch
- Answer messages quicker, even if it is just to say I got the message
- Use better diction
- Finish things I have started
There are so many graphic novels, audiobooks and TV series I have started and never finished. There is new stuff coming in. I want to finish the backlog before starting ANYTHING new.
- Read at least 5 books (see above)
- Go to at least 5 EU counties
- Buy less stuff and sort out what I do use
- Sort through my things, either though away, sell or give to friends things I don’t use
- No more clothes, gadgets or dvds
- Save for my future
- Start an open source project with a friend
- Eat less junk and learn to enjoy good food
- Get in shape
- Readdress my work/life balance.
*UPDATED*
After 23 days, I decided to add some new ones to end of my list.
- Get loyalty cards and uses vouchers
- Get healthy
- Listen to music
- Get better sleep
- Blog
It is the time of the year when I look back on the year that has gone by and see how well I did on my new years resoltions. It has been a long year, with lots of stuff that happened and looking back I am surpirised at myself that I got so much done. So here it goes.
Complain less and remain positive Success, but could do better.
- Don’t hold Grudge
FAIL There are some people that have really had me mad this year and I refused to give them a free pass. Will work on this one.
- Get up earlier in the morning and have breakfast
FAIL In fact I thnk that I am worst about getting up in the morning. Breakfast thing I did for a while but I think I just prefer the time to sleep.
Go to Orange Wednesday every week
I did manage this one but it was at a cost, there were simply no good movies that I remember seeing this year. I was very disappointed by everything.
Visit all of my friends at university
Go on Holiday
Good times, but I wish I had more holidays and less work.
- Start the process of learning to drive
FAIL Simply don’t see the point, I get the train everywhere and it is not a problem in my time.
Don’t buy anymore games until I complete all the games I have
I managed this but not playing any games at al. Even let my xbox live membership end. Simply don’t feel like I have the time to do this at the moment. I play a lot of games on iphone however. Maybe if I had a window phone 7 phone?
- Go swimming once a week
FAIL No time to swim, fun to be had
- Drink less caffeine
FAIL This was never going to happen, I would be inhuman without caffeine in me
Redesign all of the sites that I run.
Success, spacedmonkey and jonathandavidharris both got a lick of plant this year.
So I managed 6/11, which I think it pretty good

It is that time of the year again, to set some goals for myself, keeping them quite small, but hopefully make my life better. These are not really for you readers, but for me to write down publicly. By writing these resolutions down like this, I have to be held accountable and seeing them written down like this, it motivate me to do them.
- Complain less and remain positive
I think it is a very British thing to do to complain and be negative, but I think if you live your life complaining all the time, your just looking for bad things in life. Speak positive and you will be happy, at least that is the idea.
- Don’t hold Grudge
Much like the first resolutions, it is a matter of remain positive and happy. Holding onto angry is not good for your soul.

What are your new years resolutions? What would add to this list?
One of the most interesting posts to write of the year for me, as it is time to look back on the resolutions I set at the start of the year. This year has been completely mad for me, it feels like everything has changed. With all this change, have I managed to resolve my resolutions?
Past my third year of University
This is quite easily the hardest thing have ever done. It took every part of me, every piece of fire in me to complete that degree. It was one of the best days of my life when I found my result.
Get a full time job
As I have previously mention on this blog, I managed to get a job with MW kellogg. But I only ended up working there for a week, when I got another job with a web design company, called Xanda. It is my dream job and I love it.
- Try to swear less.
This is something that I didn’t achieve, be a mixture of stressful times or living in the port city of Portsmouth. But F*** it
Find a place for important object, such as keys and wallet.
After moving home, I managed this. I still loose things, but isn’t that just life.
Make sure my phone is always charged and on me
I did manage this one to, it was a matter of keeping a charger in the living room and bedroom, so I can charge my phone anywhere I am. I also got a AirCurve dock for my desk at work, which will charge my iPhone.
- Write a free application, either online or for your computer or phone that will aid the general public
I have written a plugin for jQuery to get posts from Twitter, but I am yet to test it correctly and publish it on my portfolio. This will be completed within the next month. I am currently in the process of writing a scripts section of the portfolio, where I will open source lots of stuff I have written to date.
Go on holiday
This one was a lack of money from not having a job. I have had weekends away, going to Portsmouth for some reasons, but not a real holiday. It is on this year’s list.
- Closely monitor the amount of time that I spend on computers
As I now work on computers everyday, I spend even more time in front of computers than ever. I do notice that I am doing it and do try and get away from my computer for at least 5 minutes in every hour. I also check facebook on my phone, spending less time in front of a big screen. Is that better?
Use my time more efficiently
This is something that I do feel an have achieved by completing all of the above and manage to get out to socialize. If anything, I think that I need to slow down and chill out more.
- Try and go out for a date-night once every two weeks.
If you know me personally, you will understand why I do not want to dwell on this one. I will admit that I didn’t achieve this, as I was busy with number 1. Something I regret deeply.
- Make sure the people around me know how important they are to me!
For the most part I am extremely happy with the year. I got more done in one year, than I thought I ever could. The things I didn’t manage to do was only stopped by the fact I had to focus on getting a my degree/job. Maybe I can work on these in the new year, I know that at least one of these resolutions will make it into this years list.

For those reading this, what are your resolutions? What is missing from my list?
It is that time of the year again to look back on the year gone by and looking at the resolutions I set at the start of the year. It has been a long and hard year for me, so forgive me if I didn’t do as well as I hoped. (more…)
